Wow, this looks awesome! And only 4 ingredients? I didn’t know that a conditioner could be so simple, but if this is as good as it sounds maybe it can be that easy. I’ll definitely be trying this out!
Kelli says
Very cool! Hope you love it!

i just tried making this but mine wouldn’t go fluffy like yours does. Mine is still very liquidy even with double the amount of whipping. Any idea what I have done wrong? Will it still work the same or should I start over?
Deena says
Won’t the coconut oil solidify in your plumbing and cause clogging?
Laura MP says
Do you think grape seed oil would work instead of avocado? Because one I have, the other I’d have to find.
Jamie says
Approximately how many washes is this?
vicky says
Wouldn’t your hair be oily after using this?
Kelli says
Not sure, Laura, I haven’t tried that. Please let me know how it works for you. Thanks!
Kelli says
I didn’t for me, Deena. Hope that helps.
Mini says
My question is same as above…wudnt the hair be oily /greasy after using this???
Heather says
Curious about it making the hair oily too? One “fix” for the oil left in the bottom of the tub is baking soda — sprinkle it into the tub and scrub with a wash cloth. Baking soda will break up the oil, and leave your tub squeaky clean.
Marisol says
I’m sure it would make it greasy. 2 oils? it’s got to. Good stuff for your hair but better use it as a hair mask that you leave on for an hour and then wash it off.
Kimberly says
Is there a necessity to use the essential oils? Mine are packed away for my move.
Becki says
Throughout the article you indicate this is for “natural hair”, can or should this be used on color treated hair and if not, why?
Bianca says
I’ve just tried this recipe and I think you are exactly right, my hair looks really greasy after using it, but it is super soft so would be a god mask!
Deanna says
I used this conditioner recipe and my hair is now very greasy. Soft but greasy. How much should I be using and how to rinse it thoroughly out of my hair? Right now I am soaking my hair in a ACV rinse. Please help!
Mai says
try putting your whipping bowl in a bowl full of ice (like whipped cream)
Rel says
Could you perhaps give this recipe in weight? Coconut oil isn’t exactly liquid and oil tends to stick to the inside of containers.
Janine says
I just did the same! Did you find anything that will make it not as greasy. Maybe I used too much?
La Tasha Armendariz says
This will last months if need be, I use a concoction of a strengthening and split end protection conditioner, or really whatever I feel like using at the time, sweet almond oil and mix well. It makes for a wonderful leave in conditioner, I also add organic coconut oil, both at night hair towel dried and brushed and go to sleep next morning fresh smelling and very soft bouncy hair. For the longest time everyone wanted to know why my hair looked wet and shiny but was dry, I told them I made a special concoction for my hair and it doesn’t feel greasy the next day. I do recommend a satin pillow case. This is the first time I am truly giving mu secret hair products that I use away. Now the cat is out of the bag. ? Enjoy if you try it especially good for damaged of colored hair, but everyone in my family uses it, even those with untouched hair. I wanted to make this a business but no resources, it literally takes kinky frizzy hair and makes it much more manageable. Trust me I know.
Kelli says
Thanks for sharing, La Tasha! 🙂 Kelli

I always use coconut oil in my hair, let it sit while I wash then rinse out what I can before using the shampoo. there is NO way you are getting that out of your hair without soap! which means your hair will be absolutely greasy.
LeAnn C says
I used this today for the first time and my hair was so greasy. I had to wash it again and then it was fine. Super soft and silky but you have to wash it out for sure!
Kelli says
Happy to hear you liked it, LeAnn! Thanks for sharing! 🙂 Kelli

My pleasure, Jamal. 🙂 Kelli
Elizabeth says
You need to rinse thoroughly with hot water. I’d like to know if I need to shampoo again to get the oils out.
Amy says
I was wondering the same thing. You are definitely not supposed to put coconut oil down any drains.
Amy says
You probably only need about a dime sized amount just on the ends of your hair. 🙂
Holly says
I’ve been using this recipe for almost a year now and it’s wonderful! I HAVE EXTREMELY CURLY FRIZZY HAIR, so please use with caution if you have straight hair. This has almost completely taken the frizz out of my hair! My curls are so happy and healthy! I use about a half dollar size amount and I have very thick and long hair. If you have straight hair and plan on using this as a conditioner and not a mask, then you should be using a dime size and only on your ends because that’s where the dead and dry hair is, not close to the scalp. If you have curly hair, this is the only thing I’ve found to completely tame the frizz and I’ve tried LOTS of products before. With frizzy hair, use all the way to the roots of your hair and play with the amount to see what works best for your hair. Coconut oil is amazing for moisture and avocado is a smiler protein to hair so it repairs damage, that’s why these are such great oils for your hair!
Kelli says
Holly, That’s great! I’m so happy this recipe is helping you! Thank you so much for sharing! 🙂 Kelli
Pax says
Sweet almond oil and what?
Can you share the recipe please?
Roses61 says
Yes, especially if you have a private septic system. Use the conditioner sparingly.
Debbie Snow says
yes I did have to shampoo again to get the oil out.
Wendy says
First off, I wish I had read reviews and been careful about the amount I used. I used wwwaaaaaaayyy too much. My hair is very curly and long, but fine and thin. My hair LOVES it. I have tight, defined curls even with it being so dang oily. I’m definitely dealing with a learning curve right now. Note to self: dime size is plenty-I promise!
