This free printable elf letter template is a fun way to introduce the elf on the shelf idea to your family. Not familiar with this relatively new holiday tradition?
Basically, Santa sends an elf to your home to keep an eye on the kids and report back. The elf’s report helps determine whether your kids end up on the “naughty” or “nice” list. There are a few “rules” that go along with the elf on the shelf idea, but more on that in a bit.
This rhyming elf on the shelf letter template download will help your kids get accustomed to the idea of the elf on the shelf in a fun and friendly way. Without a nice story to go along with the elf on the shelf, the elf may seem more like a spy or an unwanted guest than a magical friend.
In addition to the printable elf on the shelf letter, you can get your kids excited about the elf on the shelf by staging him or her (they come in different genders) in fun ways, which brings me to the rules. The elf on the shelf:
- Visits between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve he or she hitches a ride with Santa back to the North Pole.
- Can’t move or speak when anyone is looking.
- Can’t be touched by anyone or will lose his or her magic.
The idea is that Mom and Dad move the elf on the shelf around, staging him or her in fun ways, at night. Looking forward to discovering the elf (and his or her shenanigans) each morning becomes a bit of family fun that everyone will look forward to.
