Christmas Cupcake Idea: Christmas Light Cupcakes
Where do you spend the majority of your holiday season? For me, it’s in the kitchen. In fact, I’m practically chained to the stove during the holidays! It seems like there’s an endless amount of goodies to bake, meals to cook, and of course, dishes to do. However, in order to spend less time in the kitchen and more time with my loved ones, I’ve got a few tricks up my apron sleeve this year including: utilizing semi-homemade recipes (like the Christmas cupcake idea below), breaking out the trusty crockpot (which can make just about anything including peanut clusters), and leaning on adorable looking recipes that are secretly super easy (like this Christmas tree bread).
You too can use these tricks (and if you have other time saving ideas I’d love to hear them in the comments) to break out of the kitchen and join the festivities this holiday season. 🙂
I know that some people think semi-homemade recipes are “cheating” but that’s totally not the case. There’s still cooking involved; you just start out with a pre-made base. The end result is still delicious (just taste these Oreo ornament cookies if you need proof) and made with love. That’s why I don’t feel at all bad about using a store-bought cake mix for this Christmas cupcake idea.
This Christmas cupcake idea is relatively quick and (thanks to that store-bought cake mix) easy. Trust me, this isn’t one of those recipes that takes all day to make. Plus, as long as you aren’t being a neat freak or a perfectionist, the kiddos can help out with this Christmas cupcake idea. Let them add the water to the batter or add the M&Ms during the decorating phase.
In addition, this Christmas cupcake idea is tasty (but you probably already guessed that since it’s a cupcake 😉 ). In fact, I’m really glad this recipe makes 24 cupcakes or else they might not last long enough for anyone outside of my household to enjoy them!
If you’re feeling creative and have a little extra time on your hands you can always dress this Christmas cupcake idea up further. For example, add green food coloring to the frosting or roll the frosted cupcakes in white sprinkles or edible glitter (so it looks like snow on the tree). There’s a lot you can do with this Christmas cupcake idea OR you can keep it simple… either way, they’re sure to be gobbled up by your friends and family!
By the way, some of my other favorite super easy Christmas recipes are:
INGREDIENTS
This recipe makes 24 cupcakes
Chocolate cupcake mix (calls for eggs, oil, and water)
(2) Vanilla frosting container
(2) 0.67 oz black icing tube
19.2 oz M&M’s bag
Red and green cupcake liners
Icing decorating bag
DIRECTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 350° and line a cupcake pan with cupcake liners.
2. In a large mixing bowl combine cupcake mix, eggs, oil, and water and whisk until well mixed.
3. Fill cupcake liners halfway with batter.
4. Bake for 15 minutes.
5. While cupcakes cool, fill up your decorating bag with white frosting.
6. Cut an inch tip off the end of the decorating bag and ice your cupcakes by drawing a large swirl starting on the outside and working your way to the center.
7. Draw a swirl on top of the frosting with black icing.
8. Place a mix of colored M&M’s along the black swirl.
9. Enjoy!

Are two tubes of that black frosting enough?
Thank you 🙂
