How to Find Legitimate Home Based Data Entry Jobs
More and more, women are breaking out of cubicles and turning to the Internet to make money. The reasons behind this are varied. Some want to launch a new potentially lucrative career, others want the opportunity to be their own boss, and still others want a job with a flexible schedule that allows them to pursue other interests like caring for their children or traveling. Of the many opportunities provided by the Internet, two of the most popular are home based data entry jobs and virtual assistant jobs.If you’d like to learn how to become a virtual assistant, read: “How to Become a Virtual Assistant and Make $3,000+ a Month”.

Home based data entry jobs are just that… jobs done from your home involving the entry of some type of data into a computer. The type of data you may be working with will vary widely from role to role; here are some examples:
- Entering numbers – ex. transferring numbers from an interface (ex. Google Analytics) to an Excel spreadsheet
- Basic typing – ex. typing up handwritten notes
- Converting image to text – ex. looking at a picture of a whiteboard from a lecture and typing up notes from the image
- Audio transcription – ex. listening to a recording and typing up what the person is saying word for word
- Transferring – ex. taking content from one source, such as a Word document, and putting it elsewhere such as a WordPress blog
- Coding – ex. entering billing codes for medical services
A lot of times people think that data entry requires little skill, but as I’m sure you can tell from the list that isn’t always the case. In fact, depending on the data you’re working with, the task can be quite complex and require a high level of attention to detail.
Home based data entry jobs have become quite popular in recent years, and there are a number of reasons for that. These reasons include:
Approachable for all skill levels.
I talk to a number of moms, many of whom would like to work from home but aren’t sure how to get started or don’t think they have valuable skills to offer. Even if your office and typing skills are on the more basic side, you can probably successfully do home based data entry jobs.
Offer a flexible schedule.
Unlike virtual assistant jobs, where you may need to work on your client’s schedule (ex. 9-5), most data entry jobs can be done any time (day or night). That fact makes home based data entry jobs great for busy moms.
Allow for full or part time work.
You can easily find home based data entry jobs that fit your financial needs, meaning you can work full time or part time. Again, this makes data entry jobs a great fit for busy moms but also for retirees. For example, my mom, who used to be a secretary, loves spending the bulk of her time with her grandkids but is always looking for a bit of side work to earn extra money… a home based data entry job would be perfect for her!
