What would summer be without classic BBQ rib sauce? It wouldn’t be much, in my opinion. For my family, summer is about spending time together, having fun outdoors, and eating delicious (and hopefully at least some of the time healthy) food which of course includes classic BBQ rib sauce.
Unfortunately, in my family, it’s tough to please everyone. I for one like a sweet BBQ sauce with just a hint of spice, my husband wants a classic BBQ rib sauce that will scorch your mouth and reduce your tongue to a cinder, and little man, well, you never know what he will and will not eat. However, this classic BBQ rib sauce, while more my style than the hubby’s, is liked by all.

I made a good BBQ sauce with Guinness. Great with beef, horrible with chicken.

This is a fabulous basic recipe. We loved it but I did make a change and added about 3/4tsp of salt and 2 more tbls of brown sugar. I used light brown sugar. Not sure if that is what made the difference or maybe I just like a sweeter bbq sauce. Like I said, great basic sauce. I’m gonna play with it some more and make it my own with what like. Maybe next time I’ll add garlic and liquid smoke.

Made this earlier and I forgot to post a comment. This was the best BBQ sauce I have ever made. It makes a great starting sauce to build on. I did make a few changes to suit my taste but other than that, its great. I added 3 more tbls of brown sugar and a half a tsp or so of garlic powder. I also added a few drops of liquid smoke. That’s it. Great sauce.
