Homemade Hair Mask Recipe: Coconut Oil Hair Mask With Honey
Admit it, you’re a hair abuser. How did I know? Because most of us are. We fry our locks with blow dryers, hair straighteners, and curling irons. We smother our hair with mousse, hairspray, and other products. We pull, twist, and force our tresses into ponytails, up-dos, and buns.
We’re rough on our hair… and after a while, it starts to show. Due to heat damage, product build up, or any of the other things we subject our hair to, our once luxurious locks may start to look dull, frizzy, and just generally unhealthy. So, this week, take a few moments to heal your hair and say “thanks” with this homemade hair mask recipe.
This homemade coconut oil hair mask recipe is light on ingredients but still packs a punch. Everything in it is good for your hair. Let’s take a closer look:
Coconut oil Is amazing for your body inside and out. This homemade coconut oil hair mask recipe isn’t the first time I’ve recommended using coconut oil on hair and it probably won’t be the last. Coconut oil is a natural moisturizer so it helps restore softness and shine to your hair. However, there’s something special about this moisturizer…. According to Self:
“It [coconut oil] has been shown to actually have the ability to penetrate hair. So why does this matter? Most hair products and ingredients can only coat the surface of the hair to add shine, smoothness, conditioning, etc. However, coconut oil–because of its chemical structure–can actually penetrate the cortex (the inner part of hair) which can help improve its strength and flexibility.”
Honey is a humectant, which means it attracts moisture. Honey will help your hair stay hydrated (and thus less frizzy). In addition, it has antibacterial properties which are great for keeping your hair and scalp healthy. You can also take advantage of the benefits of honey by trying out this avocado and honey homemade hair mask recipe.
Apple cider vinegar is optional in this homemade hair mask recipe. However, it is an all natural way to remove build up caused by products from your hair and scalp. Even if you shampoo on a regular basis, your normal cleaner may not be enough to fully rid your hair and scalp of residue left behind by the products you use on a daily basis.
So… this homemade hair mask recipe is incredibly good for your hair, only contains (at most) 3 ingredients, and can be made in about 10 minutes. What’s not to love?
