For most of us, winter is here! On top of the cold weather, the season has brought (for many of us) a case of severely chapped lips. Ouch!
Instead of rushing to the drugstore for pricey, often times chemical laden chapsticks and lip balms, give this DIY lip gloss a try. This homemade recipe for beauty products that would cost several dollars at the store is a fun, frugal, and more natural way to kick those chapped lips to the curb. Trust me, this DIY lip gloss is just as effective as anything you can purchase at the store.
Since it’s made from ingredients you can actually pronounce, I even feel safe using a non-tinted version of this DIY lip gloss on my little one.
Bonus, since this homemade recipe for beauty will make more than enough for one, you can use this DIY lip gloss as a Christmas gift.

How long will these stay good? Thanks!
Kelli says
Hi Kristyn,
I would recommend no more than 3 months, but if you add a couple of drops of vitamin E oil you can extend it well past that.

can I make pink shade gloss by using my mpm’s red lipstick?
Kelli says
Hi Pirah,
You can try i,t but I’d add very little at first so it doesn’t come out too deep in color. You can always add more if you need to. Let me know how it turns out.
Jayme says
Hey so if I just want lip balm with no color is it going to be ok if I leave out the lipstick?
Kelli says
Sure..it’s your personal preference.

for a more natural product use Hibiscus powder or beet root powder to color. Both can be purchased on Amazon.
Charlie says
Can tubed be used rather than the pots??
Kristie says
My ten year old daughter and I made this for Christmas gifts. We added about 6 to 8 drops of peppermint oil. It feels great and was so easy to make.

Great! Thanks for sharing, Kristie! 🙂 Kelli
Karee Gander says
I’ve looked for essential oils like orange, cherry, etc. I find “flavoring”when I search those items. Can I use them and does it affect the shelf life? Can I use food color rather than lipstick?
Kelli says
Hi Karee, I’ve never tried it but I’d think you could use food color. Let me know how it turns out. 🙂 Kelli
