Can you add brown sugar in this? Thank you for your help.
Debbie Head says
I tried this but must have done something wrong. As soon as I added the sugar to the oil/soap base, it became almost unable to stir. I had to just press pieces into the molds quickly. What did I do wrong?
Debbie
Kelli says
Hi Debbie,
If it cools too long in the pan it will begin to set up before you get it in the mold. Next time just reheat slightly in the pan and pour into molds.
Kelli says
Hi Mellie,
Yes, you can use white granulated or brown sugar.
karen says
What kind of molds did you use?
judy says
How long will they last and how do you store them? I understand they will dissolve if left in the shower. But will they mold or spoil if kept in a mason jar, or basket for gift giving. Love this idea for Christmas gifts or birthdays!!! Please email me with answer if you can. Thanks

Hi, this sounds like a great recipe! Can you possibly give me a different form of measurement for the glycerin soap base? Maybe in cups? I want to purchase a large block of soap. Thanks!!
Belinda says
can you use sea salt instead of the sugar?
Danielle says
How big is your mold, and how much does a batch make?
Kelli says
I have never done that, but I would imagine so. Let me know how it goes.
Kelli says
Usually at least 3 months, sometimes longer. I like glass jars like Mason jars.
Alayna says
I am experimenting with these sugar scrubs. The first batch got dry fast and did not form well in the molds. Can I keep it on the burner so it’s easier to pour? Also how much essential oil do you use? I feel like I can still smell the soap base more than the oil?
Thanks
Alex says
I think this will become,y next project! I just bought some glycerin soap base and am excited to use it. I wanted to do one with orange and vanilla as you suggested. have orange essential oils, but I don’t have vanilla, this may sound like a stupid question but could vanilla extract also be used as a essential oil? Thanks for the great recipe!
Kelli says
I am not sure that would be as effective, Alex. Sorry.
Heidi says
Vanilla Extract is made with alcohol so the exact opposite of an essential oil. I wouldn’t recommend using Vanilla Extract for any skin product unless it were for astringent purposes.
Michelle says
The alcohol would all evaporate off and not leave anything behind that would harm your skin, but I don’t know that it would add much fragrance.
anna says
how many does this make?
Breanna says
I use Epsom salt in my bars so I don’t see why you couldn’t use sea salt instead. I have a small business selling hand made bath products. You should visit my page. http://www.facebook.com/BasicallyBreanna13.
Breanna says
I would add Vitamin E Oil (about a tablespoon per batch) for a longer shelf life. I have a small business making hand made natural soaps and bath products and this is what I do when using things with a shorter shelf life.
Breanna says
The liquid was probably to hot and dissipated the essential oils. I have a business making hand made natural bath products and I have to make sure it has cooled down significantly before adding essential oils.
Hollie says
How much soap base is 8-1″ cubes? Is that a 1lb brick? I am looking to add this to my product line of JEWEL BOMBS (find me on Facebook!) But I don’t know how many pounds this recipe needs.. and how many it would produce.

Rosalie says
You can find mini ice cube mold on amazon.
Jasmin says
Hi! How much does this make? I regular size bar or more? And how much is 8x 1″ cubes in grams (or any other measurement) so I know how much to buy? Thanks!
Jasmin says
Hi! At what point would you recommend that you add the Vitamin E? Along with the essential oils or while the base/coconut is melting? Thanks!
