What Are Printables?
Printables are digital downloads. Back in the day, if you wanted to get cute bubble letters or calligraphy letters that you could print at home, you would have to buy a CD or DVD. Digital downloads allow you to skip these physical media go-betweens. You can simply download a file directly from the internet onto your computer. You can print it now or save it for later. You can print it as-is or resize it to your liking.
Why Printables?
There are so many uses for printables. For one, you can use them for decorative purposes. For example, you can use printable bubble letters to make a cute banner for a baby shower. You can also print things like trivia games or bingo cards for holiday parties.
Printables open up a whole world of resources. Not creative? No problem. Printables bring the creativity to you. Not artistic? Leave it to the printable creator to make you look good. Clumsy with graphic design? Printables have you covered. Low on time? Printables give you what you want and need in seconds.
Why Bubble Letters?
Think of blowing a bubble with your chewing gum. Now translate that big, soft, puffy bubble into letter form. You can leave the bubble letter as-is or fill it in; the space that falls within the letter’s outline gives you plenty of room to add color or draw lines, chevron patterns, stars, etc.
Bubble letters are fun and whimsical; they are often used for humorous titles, kid-centric logos, party invitations, or bulletin boards at schools. But that’s not all. Bubble letters come in all different fonts, so they can take on a more serious, regal look, too.
What Can You Do with Bubble Letter Printables?
Where do we begin? It’s hard to beat the versatility of these printables.
Learn
Trace
Kids looking to master their letters can trace the outlines of bubble letter printables. Multi-sensory experiences like tracing letters with a finger or pencil offer a deep kind of learning. Think of the difference between simply reading a recipe or actually making that recipe. The best way to learn to cook is to roll up your sleeves and immerse yourself in the stirring, measuring, and frying.
It’s no different for learning letters. When kids trace, they aren’t just memorizing the look of the letter, they’re engaging their senses of sight and feeling to explore the contours of each letter. This can help cement the letter in their mind.
Say and Point (Letter Name Identification)
Start by putting a hard copy of a bubble letter alphabet printable in front of your child or student (either upper or lower case). Then, you can call out the letter name and have the student point to the correct letter.
Vowel Identification
For a twist on the above, reinforce vowels by seeing if the student can point to just the vowels.
Letter Sound Identification
This is similar to the “say and point” game above, except instead of calling out letter names, make letter sounds and have the student point to the corresponding letter. (For example, when you say /buh/, the student should point to the letter B.)
Once the student gets proficient at this, take it up a level by giving the sound in the context of a word. For example, you could say, “Point to the letter that makes the first sound in bird,” or “Point to the vowel sound that you hear in the word cat.”
Point and Say
This flips the script on the “say and point” game above. Point to a letter and have the child say the correct name or sound.
Flash Cards
Turn your bubble letter printables into letter flashcards and have your student practice saying their letter names or sounds.
Memory
Print two sets of bubble letters, cut them apart, turn them face down, and voila! You have a fun memory game. Kids can choose two, turn them face up, and see if they have a match. You could make matches between upper case letters, upper case and lower case letters, and print and cursive letters (for students trying to learn cursive).
You could even print pictures and have students make a match between the letter and the word that starts with that letter. For example, they could match an apple to the letter A and a bumble bee to the letter B.
Spelling
Lay out the letters of a word (plus a few more letters to heighten the challenge). Then, ask students to spell the word. For example, lay out C, A, D, T, and E and ask the student to choose the correct letters and put them in order to spell cat. Make sure they vocalize each sound as they put the word together.
Puzzles
Work young students’ coordination and letter recognition skills by cutting bubble letters into three to four parts and having students reassemble the “puzzles.”
Craft
Cut and Color
Have students cut out letters and color them. This familiarizes students with letters and allows them to practice their coloring skills. It’s two in one!
Cut and Decorate
Take the step above to a new level by encouraging students to decorate the letters in all kinds of artistic ways: with paint, silk flowers, stickers, or even decoupage.
This is a great idea for a party. Print the bubble letters on cardstock and encourage kids (or adults) to glam up the first letter of their name. These fancy letters turn into a great party favor and room decoration. They can be hung with ribbon on a wall or framed.
Beautify
Banner/Bunting
Print a hard copy of your bubble letter printable. Cut out the appropriate letters and make darling decorative banners (or “bunting” if you’re thinking of the flag-shaped letters on string or ribbon). You can print your letters on colored paper or scrapbook paper to add variety. Jazz up your banners with artificial flowers and ribbons or tied fabric.
Bulletin Boards
Bring boring classroom or home bulletin boards to life with printable bubble letters. Print them on colored or patterned card stock to make them pop. You’re not locked into pre-cut letter packs. You can simply print the letters you need in whatever quantity you need.
Scrapbooking
Love preserving your family’s memories with beautiful scrapbooks? Free printable bubble letter stencils are your new best friend. No more freehanding captions. Make them look positively professional with our many styles of bubble letters.

Lowercase and Uppercase
A lot of printables have uppercase bubble letter printables but no lowercase alternative. This is a problem for kids who are memorizing their letters (or learning to write them out). Look for a site like Freebie Finding Mom that offers both.
Different Styles
You may have one type of bubble letter in mind, but there are so many different options. There are the rounded, squishy kinds that you see in kids’ books and the elegant ones you may see on a wedding shower invitation. There are the edgy graffiti types and the classic block-edged ones. There are 2-D letters and 3-D as well.
Look for a wide range of bubble letter printable styles to fit different aesthetics.
Bold Outlines
Kids can trace bubble letters as a useful exercise when they learn to read and write. And anyone can trace bubble letters when they want to learn to freehand their own bubble letters for posters or other projects. But tracing through paper requires strong borders, so you can see exactly where the lines are.
Look for bubble letter printables with bold, black outlines that will take the frustration out of the tracing process.
Special Occasions
Themed printables add flourish to holidays and special occasions. Think of balloon bubble letters for birthday parties, outer space bubble letters for astronomy lovers, flower-embellished bubble letters for spring season bulletin boards or wedding invitations or decor, or Christmas bubble letters with Santa hats or reindeer.
You can add sparkle to your next special occasion project or craft with bubble letters that fit the holiday and season.
