Savings Chart Update Week 19: Snagged Free 30 Day Amazon Prime Membership for Holiday Shopping = $99 in Savings
Is your holiday shopping complete? If so, you are ahead of me because mine certainly is not. Though my shopping is not complete, I have made a sizable dent in my shopping list thanks mostly to Amazon.com. As I have mentioned several times in the past, I LOVE shopping on Amazon.com all year round but especially for the holidays.
My admiration for shopping on Amazon.com is not just because they offer competitive prices and its incredibly convenient, but because they offer a program called Amazon Prime as well. For those individuals who do a fair amount of shopping on Amazon.com, it’s brilliant! Amazon Prime members can enjoy free two day shipping on all items sold and shipped by Amazon, free access to Amazon Instant Video and the ability to borrow books from the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library. An Amazon Prime membership typically costs $79 a year, and in my opinion, is totally worth it if you buy enough from Amazon.com throughout the year; but there’s no need to buy an Amazon Prime membership just for the holidays. Nope, sign up for a free 30 day trial (like I did) and snag all the same perks and pay nothing. Just be sure to cancel before the 30 days expires, so you won’t be charged.
This was my holiday shopping strategy last year and it worked beautifully and I have implemented it again this year. I have had many items shipped to my door via two day shipping totally free. I have conservatively saved over $20 in shipping costs already this year and my holiday shopping is not complete. Then add in the $79 membership fee I avoided and my total weekly savings chart entry is $99. This brings my total annual savings to $3,213.78.
